Achievements

  • Punjab Government sets up NRI Affairs Department.
  • The Punjab Security of Land Tenures Act 1953 has been amended to get NRI’s land vacated from tenants.
  • East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act 1949 has been amended to vacate NRI’s residential house/ commercial buildings in urban areas from tenants.
  • Fast Track Courts for the Revenue cases of NRIs have been opened under the District Revenue Officers to decide the cases of partition, contested and uncontested mutations on the basis of unregistered Wills and cases pertaining to Khasra Girdawaries for the speedy disposal of their cases.
  • One Judicial Court also has been opened in Jalandhar and for opening of such Courts on Judicial side in all the districts, NRI Sabha is pursuing vigorously with the Govt.
  • For the facility of NRIs, NRI Police Stations have been opened on Vaisakhi (April 2008) in 6 districts – Jalandhar, Kapurthala, SBS Nagar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana and Moga. NRIs of these districts can approach respective NRI Police Stations for their complaints warranting Police action. NRI Sabha is making all out efforts for proper functioning and disposal of work by these NRI Police Stations in time bound manner as NRIs have very short stay here.
  • No police case to be registered against NRI before holding preliminary inquiry by at least Deputy Superintendent of Police.
  • District Committees for redressal of Grievances include NRI’s representatives.
  • Punjab Government appoints NRI Lambardars in those villages from where 20 families have been migrated, to protect their properties.
  • Punjab Govt. has given 3 Kanals prime land at Jalandhar to NRI Sabha Punjab for construction of NRI Bhawan for its effective functioning from its own office. Now the NRI Sabha Punjab operates from NRI Bhawan at Jalandhar.
  • All the Deputy Commissioners in the State have been designated as DCs NRI Affairs by Punjab Govt. and all DCs and SSPs have been instructed to hold monthly meetings for hearing/disposal of NRIs’ grievances. In the monthly meetings at Jalandhar, President NRI Sabha is invariably invited to attend. Similarly in other districts the Distt. Presidents of NRI Sabha are required to be invited.
  • The NRIs approaching NRI Sabha office are properly guided as to how to proceed for the solution of their problems. Even the complaints/applications are prepared by experienced officers in the Sabha and sent to the concerned authorities for redressal of grievances.
  • In the Plan Scheme previously known as CD 2.35 now named as NRI – I Plan Scheme Provision for matching share for providing basic infrastructure for community development in the Rural and Urban Areas through NRI participation.
  • Right to Vote – Registration of NRIs as Voters.
